Lets just slap some latex on it and call it a fetish.
This collection shows how designers struggle to identify conceptual ideas they could present through their designs. Instead, most of the time, they have a design idea that they assign a conceptual idea to. In Balenciaga SS17 PFW runway show, the ideas claimed of trying to reference Balenciaga and fetishism are lost on me.
I’m not the fashion media – so I’m not drooling over Demna. In fact, I’ve yet to see him do anything interesting that really makes me rethink design.

Rather – he just makes me rethink business and our current cultural attitude towards clothing – which is actually great.
But, with my love for fetishism and Cristobal Balenciaga, I feel like this collection was a bust.
Balenciaga was a genius at manipulating fabric and constructing it such a way that it’s structure gave new sight to the texture and material properties. For Demna’s collection with such an emphasis on the fabric he has chosen – the design falls flat because it is simply not a creative use of material. The design is disconnected from his conceptual ideas.
